Tips for taking photos

Clients visit our page in order to see what the location looks like. We don’t expect professional photographs from you but the photos should still be very good. It is often the quality of the pictures that makes the client choose one or the other location.

Here are some tips on how to photograph your location:

  • Set the image size of your digital camera to medium
  • Use the ‘landscape’ format to take pictures and refrain from using the ‘portrait’ format
  • Use a normal lens; if possible, refrain from using a wide-angle lens as it can make the location look much bigger and more spacious than it actually is
  • Keep your camera stable – if possible, use a tripod or a monopod
  • Photograph the object in daylight and avoid using flash
  • What to photograph
  • The first picture creates the first impression – therefore, the first picture needs to be of the exterior (a view from the street, from the garden, of the door, from the road…)
  • The second picture is taken from the inside of the building, as if you had just walked in (hall, stairway…)
  • Third is the living room
  • After that it should be as if you’re looking around in the building (dining room/television room, kitchen)
  • Next more private rooms (bedroom, workspace, bathroom, gym, pool, sauna, etc)
  • Finally yard, terrace, balcony…
  • P.S. If possible, rename the picture so that it refers to the depicted object, e.g. ‘living room’, ‘sauna’…
  • Start photographing the room from the corner nearest to the door; after that take photos from all corners.
  • Next take photos of every part of the room that is special/unusual. Make sure that all the peculiarities and all the nooks and crannies of the room are visible on the pictures. For example, a view from the window, a piano in the corner, a fireplace…

Photograph these special objects so that they would be in the center of the picture.

  • Make sure that details that make you location unique are clearly visible on the pictures as well.  Sometimes it may be this one small detail that makes people opt for your location…
  • Please send in your photos in JPEG format.
  • Make sure that the image is not too small
  • Do not alter your photos in Photoshop!
